Heloisa Pait is a regular contributor to Panoramas and teaches sociology of the media at UNESP-São Paulo State University. Her PhD dissertation, defended at the New School for Social Research, New York, dealt with the individual challenges posed by mediated communication. She spent one year in Pittsburgh on a Fulbright scholarship, teaching courses on Brazilian culture and society. Heloisa writes on media, culture and politics for the non-specialized public, and she also writes fiction. Henry Eric Hernández (Cuba/Spain) is a social researcher, transdisciplinary artist and professor. He is a Graduate in Fine Arts from the Higher Art Institute of Havana and earned a Ph.D in Media Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid. Henry Eric has received fellowships from The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, The Christoph Merian Stiftung, among others. Perceval Press has published two of his books: Revenge (2006) and Another Island for Miguel (2008). Aduana Vieja will shortly publish his book: Mártir, líder y pachanga. El cine de peregrinaje político y la Revolución cubana.

Juan Pablo Hidalgo-Bastidas is a lecturer at the Universidad Central del Ecuador. He is also a PhD candidate at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA) and the Department of Geography, Planning, and International Development Studies of the University of Amsterdam. His dissertation focuses on the political ecology of water, particularly on the power relations embedded in multipurpose mega-hydraulic projects in coastal Ecuador. He worked several years as policy-maker for the Ecuadorian government and freelance consultant in water management and irrigation issues. He is a member of the international organization Justicia Hídrica (Water Justice Alliance, www.justiciahidrica.org). |

Hillel Eyal is a Dan David Fellow at Tel Aviv University working in the field of Latin American history. His research examines the social history of Spanish immigration in colonial Mexico, focusing on the growing conflict between European Spaniards and Mexican-born Creoles towards the end of the colonial period (1750s-1810s). Among his broader historical interests are Atlantic history and comparative colonialism in the early modern world. His thematic interests include social and economic history, historical demography and quantitative methods. |

is an associate professor of political science at Vanderbilt University. In addition to his work on the role crime and insecurity play in the emigration decision, Hiskey's recent research also explores the political and development implications of migration for sending communities in Latin America, and the role migrants play in those processes. His research on these issues has appeared in such outlets as Comparative Political Studies, Studies in Comparative International Development, and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. |

Holds a BA in Film and TV Production from the Universidad de Lima, a MA in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Quito, and a PhD in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan. From 1998 to 2001, he collaborated with the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador as a video producer/instructor. He has conducted ethnographic and historical research on indigenous religious conversion, cultural performance, and cultures of protest. From 2011 to 2014, he worked as post-doctoral researcher in the project "Indigeneity in the Contemporary World: Performance, Politics, Belonging," at Royal Holloway, University of London. He currently works as a researcher and assistant professor at the Universidad del Pacífico and the Universidad de Lima, in Lima, Peru. He is the author of No os Embriaguéis… Borracheras, Identidad y Conversión Evangélica en Cacha, Ecuador. He has published in Revista Andina, Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies, Latin American Research Review, Comparative Studies in History and Society, and the Journal of Latin American Studies. His works in print include research on the legal immunity of the clergy during late colonial Peru, in Revista de Indias, and on contemporary indigenous mobilization in the Andes, in the edited volume The Andean World of the Routledge Worlds Series. |
