Holds a BA in Film and TV Production from the Universidad de Lima, a MA in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Quito, and a PhD in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan. From 1998 to 2001, he collaborated with the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador as a video producer/instructor. He has conducted ethnographic and historical research on indigenous religious conversion, cultural performance, and cultures of protest. From 2011 to 2014, he worked as post-doctoral researcher in the project "Indigeneity in the Contemporary World: Performance, Politics, Belonging," at Royal Holloway, University of London. He currently works as a researcher and assistant professor at the Universidad del Pacífico and the Universidad de Lima, in Lima, Peru. He is the author of No os Embriaguéis… Borracheras, Identidad y Conversión Evangélica en Cacha, Ecuador. He has published in Revista Andina, Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies, Latin American Research Review, Comparative Studies in History and Society, and the Journal of Latin American Studies. His works in print include research on the legal immunity of the clergy during late colonial Peru, in Revista de Indias, and on contemporary indigenous mobilization in the Andes, in the edited volume The Andean World of the Routledge Worlds Series.
