Panoramas is hosted by the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Latin American Studies, a center within the University Center for International Studies. The idea of Panoramas was to create a space to foster academic discussion about Latin America. Panoramas accepts submissions of academic quality in various formats -written, video, audio, and photographic. We strongly encourage discussion amongst our readers and contributors.

Currently in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Riverside, Professor Ryer has conducted long-term research in Cuba--where he has been affiliated with the University of Havana--and in its diaspora, including research following Cuban-educated African students as they migrate again, forging new diasporas and fashioning hybridized homelands. Professor Ryer’s book, In Caribbean Waters: África, La Yuma, and the Imagined Geographies of Contemporary Cuba, is in production with Vanderbilt University Press; other publications, awards, and professional activities are listed on his faculty webpage.

Dr. Paul W. Posner's current research focuses on democratization and political participation in Latin America. In particular, he is interested in the impact of economic globalization and related state reforms on social organization and collective action in Latin America. Current recent projects examine labor politics, the politics of social welfare resource distribution, the New Left and populism in Latin America, with specific focus on Chile, Ecuador and Venezuela. He teaches courses on Latin American politics, U.S. – Latin American relations, comparative environmental politics, and democratic theory.

Paulo Ilich Bacca is a legal ethnographer. He is lecturing anthropology of international law and indigenous peoples’ rights from the global south at the National University of Colombia. As a PhD candidate at Kent Law School, his areas of expertise include indigenous peoples rights, Latin American studies, comparative historical and ethnographic methods, international legal theory, social movements, sociology of the image, the Anthropocene, and temporalities in indigenous cultures. Paulo was a Fulbright scholar at Georgetown University and held posts at the University of Los Andes and the Javeriana University in Bogotá. |

Pavel Vidal is associate professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, Colombia. He previously worked at the Central Bank of Cuba. He has been a visiting researcher at Harvard University, Columbia University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, University of Oslo, and Institute for Developing Economies (Japan External Trade Organization). Vidal has been a consultant to the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Brookings Institution, and Atlantic Council. His areas of specialization include monetary policy and time-series econometric models. |

Marcos Emilio Pérez is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Sociology at Colby College. Starting in the summer of 2018 he will be an assistant professor at Washington and Lee University. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Political Science from Torcuato Di Tella University. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. |

Peter M. M. Cummings studied political science at the University of Notre Dame, and conducted original fieldwork on student protests in Chile. Following his research on the protests, Peter worked at Tironi Asociados, a strategic communications firm in Chile, where his research focused on civic participation and community relations.
Peter currently lives in Washington, DC. He supports national public health projects through social marketing research at FHI 360, and he serves as a bilingual tutor for the DC immigrant community at Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School.

Peter Yehl is a 2nd year Master of International Development student at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh. He is also currently seeking a certificate in Latin American Social and Public Policy. Peter holds a B.A. in International Relations and Modern Languages from Duquesne University, and has previous work experience in India, El Salvador, Germany, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. |
