An associate professor of history at Montclair State University, James P. Woodard is the author of A Place in Politics: São Paulo, Brazil, from Seigneurial Republicanism to Regionalist Revolt (Duke University Press, 2009), as well as of articles published in the Hispanic American Historical Review, International History Review, Journal of Latin American Studies, Journal of World History, and Luso-Brazilian Review. He is currently completing a book-length study of the history of U.S.-style consumerism in twentieth-century Brazil.
