El mundo futbolístico espera sin tregua, y cada cuatro años se le regala el mejor regalo del mundo deportivo: la competencia gloriosa y riquísima que se lleva a cabo solamente tras cuatro largos años de ansiedad y espera y se realiza en un diferente parte del mundo cada vez – la Copa del Mundo.  Por fin, la cuenta de atrás se ha reducido a alrededor de seis meses y ya estamos en el año adecuado que indica el empiezo del gran concurso estival.

It should certainly come as no surprise that football (soccer) holds a special place in the hearts of sports fans from across the globe. Particularly in Latin America, the pitch has served as the cathedral, and when mass is in session the pews fill to the brim with the faithful community. There is no sermon, however, only the masterful footwork of the finest players in the world. The Latin American footballer is of a different breed than his North American, European, African, Asian, and Oceanic counterparts.

Football has been ingrained in Latin American culture since its introduction to the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In some cases, football serves as a national identity (Brazil) or can be a terrifyingly powerful tool used by certain organizations (Colombia) (Politics of Football). Considering how dear the sport is to Latin Americans, I am surprised that there does not exist the maxim, “God, Family, Football.” However popular football may be, there is no matching the celebrity of the world’s greatest players.
