Desde el comienzo de la década de 2010, la privatización de las semillas se ha convertido en un problema turbulento en toda América del Sur. La agricultura es un aspecto esencial de muchas comunidades indígenas y afro-latinas. Corporaciones multinacionales están perturbando este sistema para aumentar sus propios beneficios. Ha sido progreso en unos países, como Chile, pero hay demasiada inacción y negligencia en otros, como Venezuela, y Ecuador.

The history of the United States has often been plagued by abhorrent racism, founded in the importation of slaves and perpetually upheld by countless acts of violence, loaded remarks and disabling court determinations.  On the other hand, Latin America and the Caribbean have received a cheery disposition as a welcoming nation of mixed ancestries, often cited for its blend of European and indigenous backgrounds.

On Wednesday September 6th, the University of Pittsburgh was fortunate enough to begin its series of faculty book talks with a presentation from Distinguished Professor of History, George Reid Andrews, revolving around his recently published book,Afro-Latin America: Black Lives, 1600-2000.
