Inflación y Escasez de Bienes, Serios Problemas en la Economía Venezolana

Los precios suben rápidamente mientras el poder adquisitivo cae. La inflación de agosto fue de 3.9%, mientras que la de julio fue 4.1%, principalmente debido al alza en los precios de alimentos y bebidas.1 En los últimos doce meses, los precios han subido 63.4%, de acuerdo a cifras entregadas por el propio banco central de Venezuela. Esta alza representa el porcentaje más alto de América Latina y posiblemente del mundo.6 Tras las cifras se esconde una dura realidad que los venezolanos viven en el día a día.

Bloqueo de EE.UU. le ha costado a Cuba más de 116.000 millones de dólares

Cuba asegura que el embargo de Estados Unidos le ha costado alrededor de $116.000 millones (USD) a la isla desde que se estableció, en 1962. En una declaración realizada el nueve de septiembre en la ONU, la nación caribeña añadió que sólo en el último año el embargo le reportó pérdidas por $3.900 millones  (USD). El viceministro de relaciones exteriores, Abelardo Moreno, aseguró que en promedio Cuba pierde $2.000 millones anuales (USD) como consecuencia de las restricciones de viajes entre los dos países.1

In a recent column, the editor of The Miami Herald, Andrés Oppenheimer, called attention to the increase in the number of Latin American billionaires, based on the 87-page report published by the firm Wealth-X.1 According to the Singapore-based company that sells wealth data to luxury brands, the percentage of Latin American billionaires grew faster than in any other world region in the last year. “I was skeptical: It’s hard to believe that the number of mega-rich is soaring at a time when the region’s economy is hurting,” said Oppenheimer.
