Turid Hagene Turid Hagene Professor emeritus Turid Hagene, born 1945, has worked with Development Studies at Oslo and Akershus University College, Norway, since 1994. She has done research in Nicaragua and Mexico, exploring issues of love and gender, international cooperation, democracy and participation, elections, and political clientelism. She holds a PhD in Contemporary History, emphasizing ethnographic methods. She has recently published in Latin American Politics and Society, Nueva Antropología, European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Political Geography. She has published two books (2008).

Uwe Imre Serdült uweserdult Uwe Serdült is vice-director at the Centre for Research on Direct Democracy (c2d) and works there as a principle investigator and lecturer. Before coming to Aarau he taught and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Universities of Zurich and Geneva respectively. Research stays lead him to Poland (PU Cracow), Japan (Waseda and Ritsumeikan University) and the USA (University of Pittsburgh, PA). He studied History, Political Science and Computer Science at the Universities of Zurich and Geneva. Currently, his main research interest is on digital politics, especially internet voting.

Verónica Garibotto veronica_garibotto Verónica Garibotto received her "Licenciatura en Letras" from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and her MA and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining KU, she taught at Queen's University in Canada. Her research addresses the links among culture (literature and film), history, and politics in 19th to 21st-century Latin America, especially in the Southern Cone. She is particularly interested in how historicity and ideology intersect with culture and in theoretical perspectives that combine a close textual analysis with a broader political reading.

Su investigación actual se centra en analizar las condiciones bajo las cuales tanto el Estado como las organizaciones criminales logran penetrar a la sociedad, y sobre las condiciones que permiten al Estado imponer el orden al nivel local. Su investigación ha sido publicada en distintos journals académicos y volúmenes editados. Fue profesor visitante en la Universidad de Stanford. Ha participado en distintos proyectos de investigación con el Banco Mundial, el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, la Presidencia de la República de México, y el Wilson Center.

Manuel Vogt vogtma Manuel Vogt holds a Ph.D. in political science from ETH Zürich and is currently a visiting post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Politics at Princeton University. His research interests include ethnic conflict, (post-conflict) democratization, and Latin American and African politics. He has conducted field research in Guatemala, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, and Gabon, and his academic publications have appeared or are forthcoming in International Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Latin American Politics and Society.

Daniel F. Wajner Wajner_LARR Daniel F. Wajner is a PhD candidate at the Department of International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He also serves as lecturer at the Department of International Relations and the Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University, as General-Secretary of the Israeli Association for International Studies, and as co-editor of the Politika academic journal. His main areas of research and teaching are international legitimacy, conflict resolution, and regional integration, particularly focusing on their interplay in the realm of Middle East and Latin American politics. His present PhD research focuses on the role of international legitimacy in conflict resolution, through the analysis of legitimation dynamics during peace negotiations in intractable conflicts.

William Barndt wbarndt Will Barndt is Assistant Professor of Political Studies at Pitzer College, a member of The Claremont Colleges. He received his PhD in Politics from Princeton University. His book manuscript, "Democracy for Sale: Corporation-Based Parties and the New Conservative Politics in the Americas," demonstrates how particular business conglomerates are constructing their own parties and party factions throughout much of the western hemisphere. Barndt's research has been published in World Politics, Latin American Politics and Society, Journal of Politics in Latin America, and various edited volumes.
