I am the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long professor in Latin American Sociology at the University of Texas-Austin. My main areas of research are poverty and marginality, political ethnography, and urban violence. I published the books "Poor People’s Politics," "Contentious Lives," "Routine Politics and Violence in Argentina," and "Patients of the State." With Débora Swistun I co-authored "Flammable. Environmental Suffering in an Argentine Shantytown," and with María Fernanda Berti I co-authored "In Harm’s Way. The Dynamics of Urban Violence." I am the current director of the Urban Ethnography Lab at UT-Austin.

Alejandro is the editor in chief of Nuestra Aparente Rendición's webpage (http://nuestraaparenterendicion.com/). He has a BA in Political Science from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a PhD in Humanities form Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He just finished a postdoctoral fellowship at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitan-Xochimilco. His research interests are: enforced disappearance, surveillance studies, terrorism, 9-11 studies, genocide and public security. |

Chris Belasco, PhD is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). His doctoral research comparatively evaluates the politics, design, and electoral payoff of targeted social programs in Latin America. He holds an MPIA from GSPIA and a BS in Information Science and BA in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh. Benjamin Cowan is an associate professor of history at University of California, San Diego. He received his BA from Harvard University and his MA and PhD from UCLA. His book Securing Sex: Morality and Repression in the Making of Cold War Brazil was published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2016. He has also published articles in American Quarterly, Journal of the History of Sexuality, Hispanic American Historical Review, Radical History Review, and other venues. His research interests include right-wing radicalism, morality, sexuality, and twentieth-century imperialism; he specializes in Cold War Brazil, especially the cultural and gender history of the post-1964 era. |
